Biography
Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde was born on 7 February 1978 in Lagos, Nigeria. She began her acting career at 16 and became one of the biggest stars in Nollywood, Nigeria's film industry, which is the second largest film industry in the world by volume of output.
Over nearly three decades she has starred in more than 300 films, covering a vast range of roles. She is known for the emotional depth she brings to her performances and for consistently choosing roles that explore the real lives and struggles of African women.

What She Fought For
Omotola has used her enormous platform to make the suffering of ordinary Nigerians and Africans visible. She has spoken out about poverty, hunger, violence against women and the exploitation of children. She has visited refugee camps and conflict zones to draw attention to crises that the world was ignoring.
She has also fought for Nollywood to be taken seriously as a cultural and artistic institution, helping to shift perceptions of African filmmaking from cheap entertainment to a powerful storytelling tradition that reflects real African life.
