Biography

Kemi Adeosun was born on 9 March 1967 in London to Nigerian parents and grew up in Nigeria and the United Kingdom. She studied economics and accounting and worked in the UK financial sector before returning to Nigeria. She served as Minister of Finance of Nigeria from 2015 to 2018, the first woman to hold the post in the Fourth Republic.

During her tenure she championed initiatives such as the Voluntary Asset and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS) and spoke about the need for fiscal diversification and discipline. Her tenure ended amid controversy over her NYSC certificate; she resigned in 2018. She remains a prominent figure in discussions on Nigerian finance and governance.
