Biography
Luisa Dias Diogo was born on 11 April 1958 in Tete Province, Mozambique. She studied economics at Maputo’s Eduardo Mondlane University and later in London. She joined the civil service and rose through the finance ministry.
She became Minister of Planning and Finance in 2000 and was appointed Prime Minister in February 2004 — the first woman to hold the post in Mozambique. She served until 2010, overseeing economic growth, debt relief, and reconstruction after the civil war.

Mozambique emerged from a long civil war in 1992. Diogo’s tenure focused on stability, poverty reduction, and attracting investment while managing public finances and relations with donors.
